What is the Front Porch Project?

The Front Porch Project is a one-month intergenerational community-building project. The goals of the Front Porch Project are:

How Does it Work?

During the month of July 2007, 2 crews of supervised youth will do free home repair and landscaping for senior citizens and homeowners with disabilities in the Charleston and Big Ugly-Harts areas.

What's in it for the Youth?

The Front Porch Project is an opportunity for youth ages 16-21 to reach out to their neighbors and help their community become a better, friendlier place to live. Not only that, it’s a place to make friends and a little bit of money. The skills learned during their month with the Front Porch Project will guide at-risk youth on the path to becoming leaders in their communities.

What's in it for Homeowners?

Besides free home repair, the Front Porch Project will give homeowners a chance to share their life experience with local youth.

In addition, it will help homeowners remain safe and comfortable in the neighborhoods they love.
