XXIII Geri-Olympics
On Friday, April 16th 2010, the 23rd annual WV Geri Olympics will open at 8am in the South Charleston Community Center in South Charleston, WV, with over 25 nursing homes and over 200 residents- the largest group of nursing home athletes in the history of the WV Geri Olympics- and crowds of spectators. Competition will be especially brisk this year with some of the athletes anticipating not only this competition, but also anticipating competing as part of the returning Team USA in the International Geri Olympics, in Prague this coming October. These are not your stereo-typical rocking chair seniors, but seniors out to prove that becoming older and residing in a healthcare facility doesn’t mean giving up on life, living, or competition; they are seniors aging with grace, dignity, and a competitive spirit.
